Mission Trip To Haiti 2011
My first mission experience was to Haiti 23 years ago was a result of a dream I had. In the dream I was dressed in all white with a white scarf on my head and all these little children were grabbing me around my waist. I remember sharing with Pastor Peyton the dream and he had a friend who traveled to Haiti annually and I found myself several months later meeting this brother in Christ, his brother-in-law along with a sister in Christ (Pam Duke) at Dulles Airport for the first time and the rest is HIStory (get it, HIS (Jesus) story). My first trip to Haiti was life changing on some many levels and this trip brought back to many memories and reinforced why I fell in love with the small island of Haiti. On my first trip I met a young girl who was five years old - Marianna is her name, who lived in the mountain village of Trois Mats. She spoke no English but as I talked and played with her she responded as if she understood every word I was speaking. My experience with Marianna then was the first time I experienced what we call the language of love!!! From that fateful day in a little Trois Mas to this day Marianna has been a part of my life. She became my daughter and despite the miles that separate us she is a part of my life. And now at the age of 27, she has made me a grandmother two times over. On this recent trip, she looked really good and her children are growing and thriving. As she presented me with this large basket of oranges and bananas and kept thanking me, all I kept telling her was that she was my daughter. Trois Mas has my heart. Its the real Haiti. The mountains!!! Haiti is a nation of survivors. The devastation that is still evident in Port au Prince is heart breaking but the people in the capital (as well as in the mountains) have the blood and will of survivors and are still living and even smiling and those who call on the name of the Lord, are yet praising and trusting Him. Pastor Lucís church was completing destroyed as a result of the earthquake last year but in 11 months they have been rebuilding and what stands today is a larger facility which will enable them to do even a greater work. Its as Pastor Luc's son, Michael said and I paraphrase him, God took what the earthquake did and rose up a miracle from the ashes. That's what will take place in Haiti & I believe it with all my heart & that God will take all the devastating things that have happened to Haiti and from the ashes, raise up a powerful nation. | Testimony
Submitted by Megan Hunt: When I was told that God had called me to go on the mission field to Haiti I was more than nervous. I couldn't fathom why he chose me of all people; all I knew is that when God calls you to do something you have to do it. Not going to Haiti was not even an option I stepped out on faith and I'm glad I did. What touched me the most while in Haiti was the fact that nobody let any type of language barrier effect the way they showed love and affection. The children were a blessing; they would come up to you and just kiss you and love on you. They have never seen me before but yet they were so eager to accept me and that touched my heart. Even as I got to minister in dance on the last night, the fact that no one in the audience had ever heard the song before or knew the words, yet they did not let that affect their worship. It was truly a blessing to see so many people who have nothing just freely worship God.
